Design Research North – DRN

DRN was a vehicle for engagement with the city, industry and the studio. It was founded by Director Des Fagan and functioned between 2016 and 2019. It was a design and research consultancy that conducted a wide range of community and industry-based research projects in the north of England. Inherent to the function of DRN was the interaction of students and studio projects in the context of a live research office.
As a research office, it strived to understand complex social and design issues for the benefit of communities through optimisation. Its research strategy was to disseminate, exchange and combine localised studies with related academic institutions, municipalities and agencies at a European and Global scale.
